Lecce is known for its historical centre, which is a Baroque jewel with numerous churches, palaces and squares. I recommend you take a walk through the historical centre and admire the Baroque architecture of the buildings, with their limestone sculptures and decorations, which give the city a unique atmosphere.The heart of the historical centre is the Piazza del Duomo, where the Cathedral of Lecce and the Bishop's Palace are located.

Lecce

The cathedral is a Baroque work of art with a richly decorated façade and a majestic interior with numerous works of art.Nearby, there are numerous other Baroque churches and palaces worth a visit, such as the the Palazzo dei Celestini and the Palazzo Adorno.

But Lecce is not only art and architecture. The city also has a long gastronomic tradition and produces some of the best wine and food in Apulia. I recommend you try the Salento cuisine, which is a combination of Greek, Roman and Arab influences.

You cannot leave Lecce without tasting the famous pasticciotto, a puff pastry filled with custard, or the rustico, a savoury calzone filled with vegetables or cheese.

Finally, Lecce is just a few kilometres from the beautiful beaches of the Salento, where you can enjoy the crystal-clear sea and the beauty of the landscape.
